Don Fiets steps down as Chicago South Tour Director

Don Fiets steps down as Tour Director

Don Fiets and Mike Dyer approached John Downey (Tour Director of Chicago) about developing a Chicago South Tour in 2008.  Both Mike and Don ran the Chicago South Tour for the first two years.  In 2010 Don became the sole Tour Director for the Chicago South Tour.

The goal was to build the Chicago market by reaching out to as many potential members as possible.   Collectively Mike, Don and John did that by taking the Chicago Tour from 115 to 210 members.  None of the growth would have been possible had Don and Mike not stepped up to head the Chicago South Tour.

I cannot say enough about the impact Don had on the Chicago South Tour.  He is well liked and respected by his members.  His decision to step down was bitter sweet because he enjoyed being a Director, but he found it difficult to qualify for the National Championship which was the one event he wanted to compete in most.  With a change in his family life, he had a new set of priorities and felt it was best to return as a player and turn the tour over to John Downey.

I would like to personally thank Don Fiets for all he has done for the Chicago South Tour.  We worked closely over the years and developed the Chicago Ryder Cup.  In addition we had combined events so both the North/South players had a chance to meet one another.  Don completed his final role as a Tour Director working the Sr. National Championship.  Don will compete in the 2011 National Championship as a member representing the Chicago South Tour.  What a parting gift it would be for Don to win the 2011 National Championship.  As his Tour Director, I wish him great success not only in the Championship, but anything else he does.

Thank you Don for all you have done for the tour and I wish you success as a member of the Chicago South Tour.

John Downey
Tour Director
Chicago North/South
